Self-paced

No fluff

Why this course

AI is everywhere, yet most businesses haven’t figured out how to use it.

You’ve asked it to write an email. Maybe summarize a doc. It worked, it was impressive, and then you went right back to business as usual.

Asking a chatbot questions isn’t the same as running your business on AI.

The gap between those two things is where everyone gets stuck. Not because it’s hard, but because nobody explained the parts that matter in language a busy operator can understand. We’re here to close that gap.

By the end, you won’t just understand AI better, you’ll be wondering how your business ever ran without it.

What you’ll learn

Caitlin K.
“Nick’s patient teaching style maximized my absorption of information every session!”
Mac M.

Who is this course for?

You don’t need a coding background or any prior AI experience. If you can use a browser and you’re willing to try, you’re ready.

The curriculum

  1. 01

    Introduction

A quick tour of where the course goes, from the core concepts to the hands-on work to what it all means for your business. You'll pick one recurring writing task, like a customer email or a team update, and use it as your practice ground the whole way through.

  2. 02

What is AI and how does it work?

A plain-English look at what's happening when AI answers you, and why it works more like a prediction engine than a lookup. You'll learn why the same question can get different answers, what a hallucination is, and where that means a person still needs to check the work.

  3. 03

    What is a model?

Get clear on what a "model" is and how it's separate from the chat app you use to reach it. You'll learn why different jobs call for different models and how to weigh capability, speed, and cost when you pick one.

  4. 04

    Meet Claude

Get your fingers on the keyboard with Claude, the tool we use for the rest of the course. You'll set up an account, find your way around the chat window, projects, and file attachments, then bring in your own task and start giving it real direction.

  5. 05

    Writing effective prompts

Learn a simple formula for good output every time: name the goal, hand over the context, then let Claude interview you for whatever's missing. We practice on a sales email, so you stop guessing at magic words and start having a real working conversation.

  6. 06

    Intro to skills

Find out what a skill is, why it beats re-explaining yourself every time, and how to build your first one. We turn the sales email prompt into a skill, run it in a fresh chat, and tighten its instructions based on what comes back.

  7. 07

    What is markdown?

A primer on markdown, the simple text format AI tools read and write in. We open the sales email skill and compare the formatted preview with the raw text, so a few symbols stop looking like gibberish and start looking like structure.

  8. 08

    What is context?

Understand context as the stuff the AI can actually "see" when it answers you, and why there's a limit to how much fits. You'll learn when to start a fresh chat, how skills carry instructions forward, and how to check a session summary before you trust it.

  9. 09

    Tokens and usage

AI usage costs something, even when a subscription hides the bill. You'll learn what a token is, how subscription limits compare with paying for usage through an API, and a few habits that keep your AI work from using more than it needs.

  10. 10

Connecting tools and data with MCP

See how MCP lets Claude reach into the tools you already use, like Google Drive, your CRM, and your design software. We connect one, review what it's allowed to do, and extend the sales email skill so it turns approved copy into a Figma design.

  11. 11

    Intro to evals

Figure out what an eval is and how to think in rubrics, so "good work" becomes something you can actually score. We build one for the sales email, with pass-or-fail checks for the facts and a score for brand voice, then wire it into the skill.

  12. 12

    Thinking in loops

Stop treating AI like a vending machine and start working in loops: run the skill, check the output, refine. Now the win isn't a one-off deliverable, it's walking away with a system that's better than when you started.

  13. 13

    Single vs multi-player

A setup that helps you doesn't automatically help your team, and pretending it does is where most rollouts stall. You'll learn where shared work should live, how a shared skills library makes tasks easier to hand off, and which skills should stay yours.

  14. 14

    Intro to memory

Memory lets Claude carry details about your business and preferences from one conversation to the next, so you stop repeating the same background every time. You'll see what it saved from the sales email work, learn how to add and remove details, and why a periodic cleanup keeps stale facts out of new work.

  15. 15

    Intro to second brains

Meet the idea of a second brain, one place where your notes, decisions, and research live so you and the AI can both pull from it later. We tour my Obsidian setup and look at how it feeds project updates and competitor research, for you and for your team.

  16. 16

    Intro to harnesses

Learn what a harness is, the software around a model that gives it tools, memory, and a place to run. We look at OpenClaw and Hermes as examples, and at why you might want a workflow that runs from a messaging app or a server instead of your laptop.

  17. 17

    The AI ecosystem

Get the lay of the land with a layered map of the ecosystem, from model makers to connectors, harnesses, and the apps on top. You'll come away able to place a new announcement on that map and tell whether it changes anything for your business.

  18. 18

    AI and your business

Pull it all together and look at your business as a system of inputs, steps, and outputs, then find where AI fits. You'll learn to spot the repetitive, text-heavy work worth handing over, keep people on the high-stakes calls, and start with one champion and one task.

Nick Basile

Founder, engineer, and educator

I’m the founder of Good Measure and a business owner like you. I’ve spent years introducing folks to deeply technical topics in a hands-on, approachable way.

I’m not a researcher explaining academic theory. I’m a builder who installs AI inside real businesses every week and then teaches it the way I wish someone had taught me.

I’ve packaged up all of my hard won lessons into this course so you can skip the learning curve and get right to the good stuff.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to know how to code?

Nope! The whole course is built for people who don't write code. Everything happens in Claude's chat window and the tools you already use, and we explain markdown and the rest of the jargon along the way.

  • Is it really self-paced?

Yes! Watch anytime, pause anywhere, rewatch as much as you want. You own it for life.

  • How long does it take?

Most people get through it in a few hours. There's no clock, so go at the speed that fits your week.

  • Do I need a paid AI account?

You can start with a free Claude account. A paid plan (about $20 a month) will help you move faster, with more usage and fewer limits on the features we use. The Meet Claude lesson walks you through exactly what to set up, and everything you learn carries over to other tools.

  • Can my team take it?

Absolutely! Reach out to us at hello@goodmeasurestudios.com and we'll get you set up with a group rate.

  • What if I'm brand new to all of this?

Perfect! This course assumes you're starting from zero and walks through everything from the ground up.
